Practicing Perseverance

Memory Verse:

“Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking anything.” James 1:4

The past three weeks we have talked about the importance of running strong towards our goals. Never giving up and pressing on through the hard times trusting they are growing patience and perseverance in us.

Everyone will face obstacles. It’s is how we look at those trials that decides what will grow in us through them. If we view them with complaining and unbelief we will grow discouragement. But if we view them as pure joy like James teaches us, we will grow the patience needed to press on. When we see hard times as the way we become better, we can feel joy for what is to come!

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”James 1:2-4

So how do we practice seeing hard times as joy?

  • Set goals so you know what you are pressing on towards
  • Give yourself small DAILY practices that will help you reach your goals
  • Ask God for the wisdom needed to view set backs as apart of the growing process

Take some time to print out the attached goal chart if you haven’t already and prayerfully write out your goals in each of these areas. There is power in writing your goals out and putting them somewhere as a reminder. Let this chart be the reminder that with small daily steps you will move closer everyday to your goals!
