Memory Verse:

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7

The past couple weeks we have talked about how important it is to learn self-control and two ways we can practice it in all areas of our lives.

1 – Spend time reading God’s Word.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).

2 – Pray for the Holy Spirit’s help.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and remind you of all that I said to you.” John 14:26

Another important way to grow in self-control is to confess the areas you need help in to God and others. Listing areas you may struggle in and asking for forgiveness will help you overcome the urge to lose control.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

God knows your struggles and is with you through them. He never wants us to be alone. Asking for help and forgiveness of our weakness allows Him in your heart to help.

Take some time today to list some areas you think you need to practice self-control.

Ask for forgiveness from God over your list and show someone that can help you stay accountable

We will never stop learning and growing self-control. Daily practice is the goal, not perfection. When we fail and fall short it is important to remember God’s grace is always there waiting for us to ask for help.
