Memory Verse
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;
Isaiah 41:10
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Psalms 46:1-2
Fear of failure can be so scary that playing a game you love begins to not be fun anymore. The fear can be so strong that it causes you to not play at your best. Failure is part of playing any sport but it is also where you learn the most rewarding lessons. It is where you find the areas you need to work on to improve. Failures do not define who you are but give you the opportunity to show how much you desire to get better. How quickly can you move past that failure?
In an interview, a professional baseball player was asked if there was a big difference in talent between minor league players and players in the big leagues. His response was, “The talent is at both levels. The biggest difference I see is that the big leaguers have learned to get back up faster when they fail.” Being fearful is normal and happens to everyone. When those fears come, remember God created you for a purpose and He is with you. In those moments ask Him to be your strength. He will help you overcome fear in a way that pushes you towards playing at your best. Conquering your fears in and through Christ will build your confidence knowing you can do all things with Him.
Do you have moments in the game when fear holds you back?
How can you plan to overcome that fear the next time it appears?
Can you think of a time when you got knocked down and chose to get back up again? What lesson did you learn?
Goggle the song “ I Get Knocked Down” and sing it out loud. You will need this along with your memory verse!
