As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interest of others.” Philippians 2: 3-4
God created every single one us uniquely. He loves how different we are. There will be teams that you play on where you may act, talk, and look different than your teammates. The team needs everyone’s individual gifts and talents to succeed. No one teammate is more valuable than the other.
When we put aside our differences we can look at goals as a team. Our own desires are set aside and we can find ways to help and serve others over ourselves. This won’t come without practice. It is a daily decision every time you walk into practice or a game. You get to decide if you are going to serve yourself or the team. God knows your own selfish desires are strong. He wants to help you see others through His eyes. But you must ask for His help.
How can I serve my teammates this week?
What selfish desire do I need to get past?
In those selfish moments, how can you remember to ask God for help?
Encourage yourself to put others first by writing on a notecard “ I like to help. I like to serve.” And put it somewhere that you will see it and say it out loud everyday.
